Description:

Do you live with or work with someone who hits, scratches, bites, pinches herself/himself? Have you tried everything you know of with less than spectacular results? Self-injurious behavior is a tough nut to crack. We are only now beginning to understand the “whys” and “whats” of this complex and sometimes frightening behavior.  This 5 hour presentation will summarize current research into the causes of self-injurious behavior, the various treatment methods of the past, and new, innovative and integrated approaches.  Participants will be presented with ideas for assessment, innovative program development and tracking of self-injurious behavior.

Directions:

The address is 8360 Cason Road in Gladstone. You will take the Gladstone exit off of 205 then head west on 82nd Ave. Turn right on Oatfield Road, then right on Webster Road, then right on Cason Road. When you turn from Webster on to Cason Road, you will see several signs for Somerset. The first is Somerset Lodge, pass that one. The second is Somerset Assisted Living. There are two entrances to Somerset Assisted Living. Go past the main entrance. The second entrance doesn’t have much signage but that is the one you want. Our training room is on the lower level of the building and a small sign out front says Gladstone Enrichment Center. We recommend planning extra time in the morning so that we can start on time.

[Note: We can park on the street (Cason Road) or in any open parking spots in the back parking lot. Please avoid parking in the main entrance parking lot. It is reserved for residents and their guests.]
