Part One: Understanding Behavior & BSP’s Training will focus on…basic and intermediate concepts and strategies to understand and manage potentially destructive behaviors of adults and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Material includes:

  • Meanings and messages of behavior.
  • Functional assessment.
  • Gathering meaningful data.
  • Forming and utilizing Behavior Support Plans.

Part Two: Understanding Behavior & Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders Training will…recognize that during BSP development, there may be concurrent need for help for a verifiable mental illness. Some behaviors that come about as a result of psychopathology that do not respond well to Behavioral Intervention Protocols. This portion of the training will help identify those diagnoses least likely to respond to BSP’s including: Disorders of Sexual Expression, Criminal Disorders Conduct, and many symptoms of Psychosis. In spite of our best effort, and great success in many areas, other interventions will be discussed that may be used in conjunction with a BSP for these disorders.
