Self-Control and Stress: The Evidence-Based “Depletion” Model: New research, including the use of brain imaging technology, has redefined the idea of self-control. This presentation will cover the latest research into “depletion” of self-control, the connection between self-control and weakened skills, and suggest several ideas to improve our performance as well as those individuals we support. Several independent research projects (including neuroscience, behavioral psychology and positive behavior support) have been studied in conjunction with work by several of the APBS networks to give us a better understanding of how self-control depletes over time. We will also discuss the brain’s tendency to conserve energy and how that affects numerous behaviors.
Take the Gladstone exit off of I-205 then head west on 82nd Ave. Turn right on Oatfield Road, then right on Webster Road, then right on Cason Road. When you turn from Webster on to Cason Road, you will see several signs for Somerset. The first is Somerset Lodge. Pass by that one. The second is Somerset Assisted Living. There are two entrances to Somerset Assisted Living. Go past the main entrance. The second entrance doesn’t have much signage but that is the one you want. The training room is on the lower level of the building and a small sign out front says ‘Gladstone Enrichment Center.’
[Please Note: You can park on the street (Cason Road) or in any open parking spots in the back parking lot. Please avoid parking in the main entrance parking lot. It is reserved for Somerset residents and their guests.]
