Description:

This session will focus on the ingestion of non-nutritive items. Pica behavior represents one of the Unsafe Oral Behaviors that can lead to serious medical complications and/death.  Pica is a common occurrence in individuals who experience Autism, Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Challenges and Intellectual Disabilities. Participants will learn about the dangers of Pica, the unfortunate Myths and Misconceptions that can lead to serious complications and ways to provide safeguards and preventions for individuals who partake in Pica behavior. The informational session is recommended for anyone working in Foster Homes, Employment Programs, Group Homes and Experiential Enrichment Programs.
