Description:
Functional (Behavioral) Assessment (AKA Functional Analysis) is a key component in Positive Behavior Support. It is also a requirement written into state and federal rule. But, merely filling out a form often fails to lead to any meaningful behavior supports. This workshop will cover the fundamentals of this process of discovery. We will go far beyond the shortcuts often taken and provide a suggested process that meets the spirit of positive behavior support. The workshop will include elements of person-centered planning, environmental assessment and “engineering,” “goodness of fit,” Initial Line of Inquiry (ILI), observation and data collection, data-based decision-making, types of assessment, hypothesis development and testing, and implications for the positive behavior support plan.
This workshop is designed for everyone on the “team” who wish to improve their understanding of behavioral challenges and contribute to the development of Behavior Support Strategies.
