Description:
This course focuses on how organizations that support people with intellectual disabilities can further their mission through community partnerships. Whether it is sharing information with a new colleague you just met at a conference, coordinating an activity with a like-minded organization, or developing a long-term collaborative relationship with a local business, partnerships come in all shapes and sizes. Community partnerships encourage complementary relationships between organizations, businesses, and individuals, help broadcast your organization’s mission, and contribute to the positive development of inclusive communities. Through lecture, activities, and discussion, we will look at examples of formal and informal community partnerships and examine the historical and social framework from which partnerships can be viewed. Learn tips that will invigorate your organization, enrich the experience of the individuals that you serve, and promote interconnectedness within your broader community. Participants in this course will return to the job with skills and basic strategies to build momentum your organization’s pursuit of community partnerships.
