| Co-Op Sponsor: | |
Inclusion Inc.
| Presenter(s): | |
James Clay, Psy. D
| Description: | |
It is well established that over one third of individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability will also experience symptoms of a mental illness at some point in their life. Unfortunately, these symptoms often look different for people with disabilities than for those without. Symptoms are often manifest as violence, self-harm and property destruction and are not adequately identified or treated. This training provides attendees with a basic understanding of how mental illness presents itself in the developmentally disabled. Special attention is paid to such "diagnostic nightmares" as: Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder and Psychosis. Participants come away better prepared to recognize symptoms of a mental illness in the individuals they serve so that appropriate and specialized treatment can be provided sooner rather than later. Research consistently indicates that providing early treatment for mental illness shortens the course and reduces the severity of the illness. |

George Hall, LCSW

| Description: | |

On the third Wednesday of every* month, George brings a specific topic and leads group discussion on individual case issues. Past sessions have been geared to emergent needs of Child Foster and Crisis Providers but we now are opening it to a larger audience. George's advice about issues, especially on brain function, sexuality, and behavior, is renowned. Confidentiality of names and identifiers must be respected, but it is appropriate to bring up individual issues in general terms. George has retired from other professional work, so we are grateful for his wisdom, conversation & golden advice. You need NOT attend every month, but regular participation helps to create peer support among providers. (* George's schedule is subject to change, but usually in advance.) |

George Hall, LCSW
| Description: | |
On the third Wednesday of every* month, George brings a specific topic for group discussion on case issues. Past sessions have been geared to emergent needs of Foster Care Providers but we have opened it to a larger audience. George's advice about issues, especially on brain function, sexuality, and behavior, is renowned. Confidentiality of names and identifiers must be respected, but it is appropriate to bring up individual issues in general terms. George retired from most professional work, but graces us with his wisdom & sage advice. Regular participation helps to create peer support. (* George's schedule is subject to change, but usually in advance.) |
