OIS© is a person-centered, non-aversive system of strategies to understand and respond to behaviors respectfully and safely. G Level OIS will include some gentle physical safety techniques appropriate for staff, family members, foster care providers (non-crisis) and other professionals providing support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Higher risks of dangerous behavior may additionally require a Level IF (Individual Focus) or C (Crisis Provider) OIS course or endorsement. Participants in this OIS-G class will receive a temporary certificate at the end of the 2nd day of class and be issued an official OIS© certificate within 2 months of class.

Remember this will fill quickly as one of the rare opportunities to access OIS for family members, foster care providers (those without a current Crisis contract), case managers or others without an in-house OIS trainer.

An overview of guardianship for adults with developmental disabilities. This 2-hour session will include time for questions from professionals and family members about guardianship and future planning for with developmental disabilities.

An information sample from the GAPS website: In Oregon, parents are recognized as the natural guardians of their children, disabled and non-disabled, until the children reach the age of 18. At that time, parental natural guardianship ceases by law, whether or not the children have a disability. Any person attaining the age of 18 is recognized as a competent adult by law, and remains so unless found incapacitated by a court of law... Without the court's determination that an individual is incapacitated, the individual retains all his constitutional rights and is responsible for making his own decisions. These rights include the rights to decide residence, consent to or reject medical care, sign a contract, marry, and make lifestyle choices...

This Level G interactive workshop presents information about non-aversive behavior intervention system for consumers who have challenging behaviors, focusing on behavior management techniques, such as self control, assessment skills and communication. Also reviews self-protection, safety concerns and limitations on the use of restraints.
OIS-G is recommended for directors and staff of residential and vocational agencies, brokerages, independent contractors, DD adult foster care providers, parents, family members, advocates, health care professionals, social workers, service coordinators, school administrators/teaching staff and all others who serve our population.
