Providers Needed

To whom it may concern,

One of the greatest limitations that we experience is the shortage of qualified providers willing to provide services to the individuals and families that we serve. We appreciate your interest in becoming a qualified provider for Self-Determination Resources, Inc. (SDRI).

Provider Types

There are primarily two types of providers, Domestic Employees and Independent Contractors. You must decide which type of provider that you would like to be before you begin the application process. Below are descriptions of each type of provider. Please read them carefully before making your decision. If you would like more information about becoming a provider, please contact the SDRI office.

Domestic Employee
Many of our customers employ people to provide support. Typically, these providers are Domestic Employees. Domestic Employees are interviewed and hired by the customer or the customer's family. The Domestic Employee is paid through a payroll service on regularly scheduled paydays. Domestic Employees have their taxes withheld automatically. Benefits are also available for purchase through that payroll service. Domestic Employees work under supervision and guidance of the customer and/or the family.

Domestic Employees provide support in areas of: respite care, assistance with activities of daily living, assistance with personal care, transportation, doing activities in the community, and providing behavioral and medical support.

Independent Contractors
Independent Contractors are independently established businesses that are open to the public. Independent Contractors must intend to work for multiple customers. The labor or services that Independent Contractors provide are contracted with the customer, not with SDRI. Independent Contractors must provide their own materials.

Additional Reading
If you are considering becoming a provider, before going further, you may wish to read the Roadmap to Support Services [Adobe PDF format]. Although it is geared toward new customers, it also has a number of useful insights into what a brokerage is, what customers are looking for, how a customer chooses the services they wish to use, how customers choose a provider, what role brokerages and other support services workers play in the provider selection, accountability and quality assurance, etc.

Rate Setting

All providers must adhere to established rules when setting rates charged for labor and services. Please refer to the Oregon Department of Human Services' Rate Setting Manual for more information.
