Domestic Employer Info

Many of our customers elect, due to their support needs, to employ support workers in the home or in the local community with the customer(s). These Domestic Employees are a vital asset to our customers, and SDRI wishes to support our customers in hiring and retaining these necessary workers. Toward this end, SDRI is making available resources to our customers and their families materials (documents) related to their roles as Domestic Employers. These materials include the Domestic Employer Employment Handbook and the Domestic Employee Policy Handbook.

Domestic Employer Employment Handbook

SDRI is providing you this domestic employer manual to explain the most basic od responsibilities that you will undertake. This manual is not exhaustive of every rule and regulation governing domestic employers. This manual offers a basic guideline only.

The information presented in this manual is not being presented as legal advice. Nor is this manual meant to replace the need of competent legal counsel, as employment laws can be complex.

the purpose of this manual is to help employers understand what constitutes discrimination, employment at will, and explain in simple terms the three main areas of employer knowledge: wage and hour laws, tax laws, and a broad miscellaneous area that includes civil rights, immigration, and safety, to name a few. With this information, it is our hope that you can create an environment that is supportive and team oriented with the goal of supporting your dependent(s) in the least restrictive environment possible. The means to this end is to apply reasonable expectations and have defined rules that govern the activities inside your home.
